Become a Contestant

 

Contest Requirements

  • The Pageant is open to all Native American Women who are at least one-fourth degree Indian and are between the ages of 17 and 26.

  • Documentation showing proof of age and tribal enrollment are required.

  • Applicants must be single and a non-parent.

  • Miss Indian Nations is not required to make her residence at United Tribes Technical College or in the state of North Dakota.

Entry Process

To enter as a contestant for the title of Miss Indian Nations you must submit the following:

  • Letter of Intent: A letter stating why you feel you would be a good candidate for the Miss Indian Nations Pageant and what the title would mean to you if you were chosen.

  • Background Information: Any information about yourself, your tribe, and any other information you feel would be important for the Pageant committee to know about you.

  • Photos: Two current photos (5x7), one of you dressed in casual wear and one of you dressed in regalia. (Photos will be used for publication purposes. Label all photos with name and address on the back. Photos will not be returned.)

  • Application: The application must be filled out completely. The applications is available online and can be filled out and printed from your computer by clicking on the link to the right.

  • Entry Fee: $495.00 (no personal checks accepted)

All of the above must be mailed and reach the Pageant office before August 15, 2008. The entry fee must accompany the application.

All canidates must be prepared for all activities and should have all materials and/or equipment ready for the specified event/activity.

Traditional Skills Demonstration

Items such as beadwork, loomwork, quillwork, basketmaking, storytelling, quiltmaking, sewing, etc.

Contestants will be provided one 3x6 table and one chair. Contestants are responsible for table decorations, such as table covering, blanket, shawl, etc. Contestants are asked to bring any articles they have made for display purposes as you are working on your project. Contestants will be asked to speak on their project, such as explaining materials used, why, the meaning of the people, etc.

Talent

Singing, Contemporary Dance, Traditional Dance, etc.

Contestants using recorded tapes need to bring them ready to use. Tape players, microphones, and/or PA system will be provided.

Parade

Since the pageant is held during the International Powwow, all contestants are required to participate in the annual Parade of Champions. Any personal items needed for the parade, such as blankets, shawls, banners, etc. must be provided for by the contestant. Pageant committee will provide vehicle, float, float decorations, etc.

Photo Session

A photo session of the new Miss Indian Nations will be arranged by the Pageant Coordinator. Photos will be used for all advertising and/or promotional needs.

Contract

The newly crowned Miss Indian Nations will be required to sign a contract with the Miss Indian Nations Pageant and United Tribes Technical College regarding the responsibilities and duties as Miss Indian Nations.
